A snapshot of KEJA efforts supporting passage of fair and adequate Tax Reform in the KY General Assembly

2007: Karen Mattingly and Dana Beasley Brown spoke eloquently about the need for fair and adequate Tax Reform as proposed in HB 411 at House Appropriations Committee hearings 3/7/07. KEJA supported efforts to enact this legislation that would lead to a system that was fairer and increased investments in critical programs and services that could make Kentucky a better place to live and do business.

2006: Read a sampling of testimony that concerned citizens gave to legislators in 2006 regarding the need for fair and adequate tax reform.

2005: Read about Tax Reform 2005 and the important contributions that grassroots citizens made to reduce taxes for low income Kentuckians.

KEJA's Raising The Bar: Real Budget Report, released in early 2006, found that chronic under-funding of programs that increase state competitiveness and benefit quality of life is leading to a Kentucky that at best is standing still, and at worst, is falling further and further behind the rest of the nation.

Don't Cut The Alternative Minimum Tax

The alternative-minimum tax calculation, a key part of the Tax Reform package of 2005, was passed as a way to capture tax revenue from multistate companies that do business in Kentucky but arrange their corporate structure so they don't pay taxes here. Business groups have been complaining the tax hits small companies hard, and some legislators are calling for its repeal. A Lexington Herald-Leader Editorial calls for study of the impact and revenue potential of this business tax before making changes.
